Built from West to East over many centuries, Vieux Lyon is like a history book that reads through its cobblestone streets... This rich history has earned it the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. A Mediterranean influence and Italian style seep from its streets lined with colorful facades, craft shops, Bouchon bistros, protected archways from another era and hidden alleyways... The area is full of a thousand cultural treasures. Accessible by the St Just funicular, the Gallo-Roman theaters appear as timeless structures. A little higher, the majestic Fourviere Basilica offers a breathtaking view of the other roofs of Vieux Lyon that integrate beautifully in the green hillsides below, on the Saône with its quays and bridges, and Lyon and its horizon.
